The guest room serves many purposes. Many times, it ends up being a storage room then when a guest announces his arrival, we go into panic mode. So how do we organize it to help serve both purposes and what kind of preparation we need for our guests arrival?
The Multipurpose room:
Many of us use our guestroom as office/storage/guest room but that does not mean that it has to end up being an extension of the garage or the attic. We can still keep it organized enough to serve as the mutlipurpose room and ready for our guests as long as you follow these guidelines.
- Keep it clutter-free: You can still keep the desk and the computer but make sure that all papers are tucked in neatly in the desk drawers or stashed in nicely in a box and put away in the closet.
- if you are using it as storage room, keep everything in lidded boxes, preferably in either side of the closet neatly stacked on top of each other. You can also store clothes in an Underbed Storage Box neatly tucked under the bed.
- Keep the closet empty in the middle with hangers only (or use an over-the-door hook) and a Sweater Organizer if you don't have an empty drawer in the room.
- Keep extra pillows, sheets, and blankets in the closet as well for your guests to use.
Guest Arrival Preparation:
To prepare for the arrival of guests, the following are few steps you need to take to ensure that your guests stay comfortable while in your home.
- Wash all sheets and pillows and make the bed.
- Vacuum the carpet or mop the floor
- Dust all surfaces
- put a bedside table with an alarm clock and a box of tissues.
Bathroom Essentials:
Bathroom Supplies: Leave Hand towels and bath towels on top of the bed or put them folded on top of the dresser or in the bathroom. Provide extra Toilet Paper, and a box of tissues.
Shower caddy: Hair dryer, razor, shaving cream, tooth paste (sample sizes should work), toothbrush, shampoo and conditioner
Last but not least, leave a vase with fresh flowers and few magazines. It creates an extra welcoming environment for your guests to feel right at home.
Extra Tips:
If you have a limited space in your guest room and would like to make it useful as a multipurpose room and keep it clutter free, get a Murphy Bed; also know as wall bed, pull down, or fold down bed. They are great to save you space in your room. They stick to the wall so you'll have plenty of space to transform it into the room of you liking.
Provide a Luggage Rack to keep their suitcases off the floor.
